New Record, NYC show and Clowning

Since April, I’ve been making a new record in LA with producer Adam Lasus and the brilliant band I have out here, Naren Rauch on guitar, Brian Griffin on drums and Whynot Jansveld on bass. I’m really excited about how these songs are sounding and I can’t wait to share them with you! Here’s a picture from the studio. I’m behind that glass door, singing.

In June, I’ll be back in New York for a visit and will be performing one song at the Bushwick Book Club’s show on June 19th at 3pm. I believe this will be in-person somewhere. More details coming soon!

And for the last 6 months or so, I’ve been dabbling in Clown. This has been one of my favorite pandemic pastimes. My clown troupe, The Highland Park School for Clowns Who Love Food, will be making our debut (apart from a private Zoom baby shower) at Stories Bookstore on June 25th. I’m not sure I like the idea of clowning in public but I’m giving it a shot.

My clown name is Outside. On your first day of Clown, our teacher Honey Bear (aka Jet Eveleth) asks you what your favorite thing is and you have to answer immediately, without thinking. Most people said some kind of food. I said ‘Outside’ and I think it fits for a number of reasons. A song (“Outside”) from my upcoming album was inspired by my experiences in the HPSFCWLF.

Also, it’s not a Bozo-type of clowning (that’s just creepy!). It’s more performance-arty. I have yet to come up with a good description of it but there is an element of modern dance and an element of improv. Come to the show to check it out. Or maybe don’t… 🙂

Here is a picture from my acceptance dance video from when I won the Trophy for Clown. It’s a long story…
